SaveNETacoma is a coalition of volunteer residents from NE Tacoma, Browns Point, Dash Point, Federal Way and beyond. We have pooled our talents and resources together to fight the proposed conversion of the Northshore Golf Course into 860 low to moderate priced houses, multiplexes and townhomes. Click to see plan
The impacts to us all are many - disruption of elementary and middle schools with redrawn boundaries, school reassignments, high risk portables or busing through growing Port of Tacoma road traffic, increased local traffic and crime. Devaluation of surrounding homes; loss of NE Tacoma's last recreational open space, damage to the critical head waters of Joes Creek, the loss of mature trees and other habitat are additional concerns.
The SaveNETacoma Coalition believes that this conversion from open space to dense housing violates the Tacoma Comprehensive Plan and Tacoma Municipal Code as well as several legal contracts and environmental laws.
Therefore we commit to stop this proposed development. | THE MISSION STATEMENT for Northeast Tacoma defined by NE Tacoma Neighborhood Council
"A low-density residential district with limited commercial and multifamily development, focusing on the automobile for transportation, with access to recreational activities, open space as well as basic public and private facilities and services."
The neighborhood action strategy is designed to maintain and enhance this area vision through public and private actions that address community needs and concerns. The strategy emphasizes:
(a) the preservation of remaining open space, steep slopes and other natural areas;
(b) the development or improvement of arterial streets along with other means of circulation within Northeast Tacoma and in accessing other areas; and
(c) the development or expansion of public facilities and services to meet the community’s growing population.
